Are you an international student scheduled to return to Australia? If so, you will need to complete the Australian Travel Declaration (ATD) form.
It’s important to note that each state or territory can have different entry requirements and quarantine measures. International travellers entering Victoria, for example, would also need to complete a Border Permit. You can check the Australian government’s website for state or territory-specific travel information.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to complete your ATD form:
You can complete your Australian Travel Declaration form online via desktop , or you can download the ATD app fro m Apple Store or Google Play . The form is free of charge.
The ATD form must be completed at least 72 hours before your departure flight to Australia . As critical health information is detailed in the form, you need to produce evidence that your health information was completed before boarding your flight.
There are five steps in total in order to get your ATD form:
You will have to first log in, or sign up for an account at the ATD form app or website. For new users, a verification code will be sent to your email to activate your account.
Next, create a strong password for your account. Another verification code will be sent to your email to confirm your password, after which you can proceed with the form.
The first detail you have to fill in is your passport or any other travel document you’re using to enter Australia. You can either fill this in manually, use an existing document that has been uploaded to your account, or upload a new one onto the page.
The next step requires you to complete your departure and arrival dates, country of departure, flight number and arrival port.
For multiple flights, your departure country should be the last country of your transit before arriving in Australia. Your flight number should be entered in the correct format as listed on the website.
This is the most important step in the ATD form, as it is where you’ll declare your health and vaccination information. You’ll also need to state if you’re travelling to another state in Australia 14 days after arrival, or 14 days after leaving quarantine.
Here, you will complete your vaccination information, and must upload proof of vaccination. Your latest dose has to be taken at least seven days before your flight to Australia. You can check the list of Australian approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine list here.
As an international student, you can enter the duration of your study visa in the “intended length of stay” section.
Keep in mind that before travelling to Australia, you must produce evidence that you have tested negative for COVID-19, unless exempted. The PCR test must be taken 72 hours before your departure.
Once everything has been filled up, you can check your information for accuracy at the Summary page. If there are no edits to be made, you can submit your declaration. The ATD form will be sent to your email.
For international travels into Victoria, you will also need to obtain an additional Border Permit in addition to your ATD. You can apply for the permit here .
